What is BMR?

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs to maintain basic functions like breathing, circulation, and cell production while at rest. Knowing your BMR helps you better understand your body’s energy needs and plan an effective diet or fitness routine.

How to Calculate Your BMR

This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation — one of the most accurate formulas for BMR calculation:

  • For Men: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) – 5 × age (years) + 5
  • For Women: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) – 5 × age (years) – 161

Why Knowing BMR is Important?

  • ✔ Helps plan effective weight loss or gain programs
  • ✔ Guides proper calorie intake for your goals
  • ✔ Prevents overeating or under-eating
  • ✔ Supports improved fitness tracking
